A Spoken Word-Styled Poem On Our Relationship With Religion
Watch this spoken word performance by poet Jefferson Bethke called, ‘Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus.’ This performance has more than 29 million views on YouTube. So, if you haven’t heard about this yet, now is the time!
In this piece by Jefferson Bethke, Bethke explores what some may or may not describe as an ‘at odds’ relationship between religion and a higher power. The first words you see on the screen say that Jesus is greater than religion. The first set of opening lines in the spoken word poem are...‘What if I told you, Jesus came to abolish religion? What if I told you getting you to vote republican really wasn’t his mission? Because religious right doesn’t automatically mean Christian, And just because you call some people blind, doesn’t automatically give you vision.’
